NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - Officers with the North Charleston Police Department are continuing to investigate a shooting that injured one man near a highway overpass this past weekend.

On Saturday at 8:35 p.m., an officer patrolling the area of West Montague Avenue and Ozark Street saw two men running in a parking lot toward an SUV.

One of the men then flagged down the officer and said he had been shot in the area of West Montague Avenue and the I-526 overpass.

Police say the 22-year-old victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to his back.

The officer then met with the other man who was seen running with the victim.

The man said he was walking on the sidewalk when he saw the victim running from the parking lot and yelling that he had been shot.

Police say both men said they were on the I-526 exit ramp when a gray Camry with dark tinted windows pulled up beside them and began firing.

A police report states the SUV which the men were running towards had been struck by gunfire six times.

The shooting victim was taken to MUSC with non-life threatening injuries.
