BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - In Berkeley County a new 800 home community is coming to the already massive Cane Bay Plantation.
That part of the county is exploding with growth. It's a hot spot for people moving here for jobs and now a destination for retirement.
Right now there are just over 1,500 families living in Cane Bay Plantation.
The plantation is made up of many neighborhoods, an elementary, middle and high school.
A spokesperson with the developer of the plantation, Gramling Brothers Real Estate and Development, Inc. says there are a lot of young families out there.
But the newest waterfront community set to bring 800 homes will cater towards active adults who are 55 and older.
It will be called K. Hovnanian's Four Seasons Lakes of Cane Bay.
The community will be on 2,500 acres centered around a system of lakes, according to the developer.
The plan is to open a welcome center this fall with the first model home coming in April, and the grand opening around this time next year.
