COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Deputies say they are investigating after gunfire was exchanged at a Colleton County intersection Sunday evening.
Authorities say the shootout occurred around 5:50 p.m. at the intersection of Ritter Road and Ford Lane.
According to an incident report, the two victims were traveling in a Cadillac CTSV when they came to a stop at the intersection and noticed a "couple" of men standing in the wood line across from Ford Lane. The suspects then began firing gunshots at the victims, disabling the vehicle.
Deputies say one of the victims got out of the car, pulled out an AK-47 assault rifle from the trunk, and returned gunfire towards the suspects. The other passenger in the car reportedly fled towards the woods for cover until the gunfire stopped.
The two uninjured men say they were able to get a ride to a home, where they then called law enforcement.
Both victims told officials they were not able to get a clear look at the suspects.
Deputies say the AK-47 used to return fire was seized, and an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
