This weekend starts a week of sampling some of the lowcountry's best assets: the food and the waterways! Plus, a water park and yoga go to the dogs in this week's 5 Around Town.

If you love being on the water in the Lowcountry, the next week (plus a few days) will have grabbing your suit and sunscreen nearly every day. Charleston Watersports Week features over 50 water activities in a variety of venues from now through September 14th. Whether you're looking for competition, adventure, or a relaxing experience, you should find something to fit your taste. The biggest event may be the Watersports Expo at the Charleston Maritime Center, September 12-14. You can find the complete schedule at

Charleston's biannual cornucopia of culinary delights is back! Charleston Restaurant Week returns for diners to sample some of the city's best restaurants at a discounted price. This time around, restaurants are changing up one of the event's calling cards. The traditional 3 for $20, 3 for $30, and 3 for $40 menus will no longer be offered. Instead restaurants will have more flexibility to offer uniquely discounted menus. Restaurant week runs through September 14th. Find out more here.

Try your hand at a yoga event called "playful and accessibly challenging" Saturday at Joe Riley Park. International Yoga Instructor Kathryn Budig will lead the group session called "Downward Facing RiverDog" from 10 am to 11 am on the field. The gates open at 9 am. The event features live music, a cash bar with Mimosas and Bloody Marys. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Proceeds from the event will benefit Poses for Paws. Check out the event website for more information.

The water park goes to the dogs on Sunday. Whirlin' Waters Adventure Park in North Charleston is opening its pools for four-legged friends only. Dog Day Afternoon has become an end-of-summer tradition to close out the water park season. Dogs will have access to the Wave Pool, the Lazy River, and the kiddie pool area. Swimming is for dogs only! All dogs must be current on their vaccinations. The park is open from 12 to 5 pm. You get in free, but admission for your dog will be $15.
