Fire levels 3 Moncks Corner mobile homes

MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County fire officials are investigating after a massive fire destroyed multiple mobile homes in Moncks Corner.

Dispatchers say the call came in at 3:19 a.m. Tuesday to an area near Ophir Street at Broughton Road.

Crews were originally called out for three mobile homes on fire but dispatchers say crews the fire tore through four different units, including a shed.

Neighbors say the three mobile homes were used as vacation homes and no one was staying in them at the time the fire started.

Fire officials say they used water from Lake Moultrie to put out the blaze. It took them less than an hour to get it under control.

Firefighters from four different departments including Whitesville, Moncks Corner Rural, Pine Ridge and Santee Circle are on the scene.

Crews are investigating the cause of the blaze.
