MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mount Pleasant will soon begin interviews for an "Economic Developer".

The town is creating the position to both help the town keep growing and bring in businesses that fit.

"The economy has rebounded and it's a good opportunity to get some of these businesses who look like they want to expand," Gary Santos, a town councilman said.

The town has taken down the posting and received around 50 to 60 applications. Santos says the town is looking for specific kinds of businesses.

"They provide good jobs with good wages," Santos said. "There's no impact to the environment, no smokestacks or things like that and they're good corporate citizens.

One of the areas the city is specifically looking to redevelop is Faison Road by the Mt. Pleasant Regional Airport.

"It's nice to be able to fly in, take a golf cart to your office, and plus you could live in one of the fantastic neighborhoods we have up there," Santos said. "We have a good package, now we just need somebody to get that package out there."

The salary for the position isn't official yet but the posting had a range of $85,000-$114,000.
