Police arrest man accused of raping woman at knifepoint

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Bond has been set at $225,000 for a 34-year-old man accused of raping a woman at knifepoint after responding to her Backpage ad last month.

Corey Arthur White was arrested Monday and charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, and armed robbery.

According to an incident report, White arrived at the victim's apartment on Fairwinds Drive in North Charleston on September 20 around 5 a.m. after contacting the victim on Backpage, an online classifieds website.

The victim told police the two were hanging out when White began to choke her. He then pulled out a knife, held her against her will, and raped her, the report states.

The victim says White told her he did not know whether to keep her alive or kill her, and did not leave her room until around 12:15 p.m. It was at that time White reportedly left the apartment on foot.

White is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
