GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Officials are investigating after the body of a 54-year-old woman was found in a pond behind her Goose Creek home shortly after being reported missing by her husband.
Goose Creek police responded to a home in the 100 block of Old Jackson Road in the Liberty Hall Plantation subdivision around 10:20 p.m. after a woman was reported missing by her husband. The husband told police his wife was last seen at 8:30 a.m.
According to an incident report, the husband told police his wife was not home when he got home from work around 6 p.m., but her vehicle and purse were still at the residence. He went on to say she may have been gone because she was mad that he was pursuing another job.
After a couple hours went by, the husband said he became worried and searched the neighborhood for his wife. He then called his son, who suggested he call the authorities.
The report states officers at the home spoke with the man's son, who said he saw his dad's wife crying that morning, upset over the job situation.
During a preliminary investigation, officers say the missing woman was found dead in a retention pond behind their home.
Captain John Grainger says they are working with the Berkeley County Coroner's Office to investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman entering the pond.
Coroner Bill Salisbury says an autopsy will be conducted Friday to determine her cause of death.
