BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A father and his son died in a crash Thursday morning on Highway 17 Alternate near Jamestown, Berkeley County authorities say.

Larry Dixon, 64, and Vincent Dixon, 39, both of Pineville, were killed when the pickup truck they were riding in crashed into the back of a log truck that had stopped for a school bus, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

The accident occurred at approximately 6 a.m., South Carolina Highway Patrol Sr. Trooper Hannah Wimberly said. Neither of the passengers in the pickup truck were wearing seatbelts, Salisbury said.

The log truck driver, who has stopped for the school bus as it loaded children, was not injured, Salisbury said.

The Highway Patrol closed Highway 17A so troopers could continue their investigation, Wimberly said. The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office is also investigating.
