CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A new law allows liquor stores in South Carolina to open on Election Day.

Under the law that went into effect July first, liquor stores will be allowed to operate from 9 AM till 7 PM on Election Day.

However that same law takes away another holiday from liquor store owners.

They cannot open on Christmas Day.

The owner of one local liquor store said Christmas Day has always been profitable for him in the past.

Restaurants don't fall under the new law and will still be allowed to sell alcohol on Christmas Day.
