Mt. Pleasant police plan Friday BBQ to fund kids' Christmas shopping spree

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mount Pleasant Police will host a barbecue cookout to raise money to help needy children experience some Christmas joy.

The goal, according to Inspector Chip Googe, is to raise enough money to send six children on a Christmas shopping spree.

"The more money we raise, the more children we can take shopping, as we are trying to fund six, but would love to take as many as eight," Googe said. He said the children have been identified through each of the elementary schools located around Mount Pleasant.

Police will sell barbecue ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken and sides at the town track at 100 Ann Edwards Lane in front of the police department from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday.

"We will also deliver your lunch if the order is $10 or more and you are located in Mount Pleasant," Googe said.

Deliveries can be ordered by calling (803) 414-0622 and placing an order with Linen's BBQ, Googe said. They will accept cash and credit or debit cards.

A barbecue rib dinner with two sides and a drink will cost $10, a pulled pork basket with one side and a drink will cost $7 and a pulled chicken basket with one side and a drink will also cost $7.

Sides will include macaroni and cheese, french fries, cole slaw, red rice and baked beans.
