CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Thomas Ravenel said his personal problems were a factor in his loss for a US Senate seat which Lindsey Graham won on Tuesday.

The former state treasurer and reality TV star said he also lost in part because he started his campaign late.

"I think one advantage to running a successful race is starting early, starting in advance," Ravenel said."Had we had another 90 days we would have had a really good shot at winning this thing.

Ravenel believes if he had time to get his message out, he would have won the race. Graham was re-elected to a third term in South Carolina.

"Starting late is very difficult, that together with some of my personal problems, quite frankly, affected my ability to get the message out," Ravenel said."Had I not had those issues, I think that we would've done a lot better."

Last week, Kathryn Dennis, the mother of Ravenel's child took to Twitter after Ravenel wrote a post on Facebook to discuss their relationship and the campaign.

Ravenel said in a Facebook post, which has since been deleted, that he was no longer with Dennis. He said Dennis' response to assault allegations that surfaced last week is partially to blame.

According to the post, Dennis was to help fight those allegations, but was dragging her feet because of filming for Bravo TV's reality show, "Southern Charm."

Dennis took to Twitter and said she was doing what was best for her daughter and said that it was "not being with Ravenel."
