Wando Marching Band places top 10 in national competition
MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - The Wando High School Marching Band placed 7th Saturday night in a national competition.
Over a period of three days, Wando High School Marching Band competed in Indianapolis with 93 other bands from around the United States in the annual Bands of America Grand national Championships held at Lucas Oil Stadium.
According to a press release, this year's performance by Wando featured state-of-the-art visual effects including remotely-controlled trees and a moving platform with a robotic lift raising an angel several feet in the air.
Following their semi-finals performance, Wando was named a top 12 finalist and competed Saturday night in the finals.
Wando scored 89.4 and placed 7th - the highest placement to date for Wando High School. In 2009 they placed 11th, and in 2011 they placed 12th, according to the release.
This year's grand champion winner was Tarpon Springs High School from Tarpon Springs, Florida with a score of 97.15.
Wando now begins its concert season with a performance Thursday, November 20th at 7:00 p.m. in the Wando High School Performing Arts Center.
