NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A North Charleston car dealer has been charged with money laundering.
Prosecutors say 59-year-old John Nick of Huger was charged in federal court on Tuesday.
According to authorities, in 2010, Nick took a $40,000 cash payment for the purchase of a new car from an individual who claimed to be a drug dealer.
Nick then allegedly covered up the transaction by titling the car in another name to make it appear as if the car was purchased with an $8,500 cash down payment, and the balance financed.
The case was investigated by Special Agents with the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation.
