Man accused of using piece of asphalt to beat man to death
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 38-year-old man accused of using a piece of asphalt to beat a man to death.
Authorities arrested Willie Lee Miller of Orangeburg and charged him with murder and armed robbery.
Investigators say the incident happened Sunday afternoon when Miller entered the home of 75-year-old Clifford Herring on Tyler Road.
According to the sheriff's office, Miller used a piece of asphalt to beat Herring to death.
Authorities say Miller admitted to then removing a cell phone, pistol and wallet from the victim's body.
"After officers forced entry into the Tyler Road home and located 75-year-old Clifford Herring, officers talked with neighbors for details on possible suspects," Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said."Based on information that we received, Willie Lee Miller was immediately identified as a person of interest. Officers searched for Miller all day Monday and were able to locate him late Monday night. Miller was interviewed by investigators and then charged with murder this morning."
Miller will be arraigned on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 9 a.m.
"It is incomprehensible why Miller would take the life of a man that was trying to assist him," Ravenell said."This is a senseless homicide where a man's life was taken who was not a threat to anyone."
