CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Hundreds of people packed Charleston's Nichols Chapel A.M.E. Church Tuesday in a celebration of food and faith.

Members of the Downtown church, located off Bogard Street, served a Thanksgiving meal to nearly 40 veterans from all over the Lowcountry, before gifting even more with a free turkey.

"It was a wonderful thing," said Ronald Ingram, a retired Army veteran."Just to see all the other veterans I've never seen before, I enjoyed the meal with them."

The event is a collaborative effort between Nichols Chapel A.M.E. church, city and state leaders, along with area vendors.

Last year, organizers estimate more than 200 people took part in the event.
