CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A new major downtown develop is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The Board of Architectural Review voted 4 to 2 Wednesday night to approve a new nine-story development at the corner of Huger and Meeting streets.
The project is a combination of a hotel, offices, retail and restaurants.
The neighboring church and businesses said they had no issues with the project, although Wednesday the historical and preservation societies told the board that had concerns about how it would fit in on the street.
It was unanimously rejected back in 2013 over design issues with the materials used on the outside.
The board approved of the size and scale of the project, but deferred the design because of concerns about the layout.
The project still needs to go through at least two more steps before being finally approved.
