Deputies seize bomb-making materials from Cottageville home
COTTAGEVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Colleton County deputies say they seized weapons and bomb-making materials from a home in Cottageville while executing a search warrant.
Officers searched a home on Van Dyke Road on Dec. 9, according to an incident report from the Colleton County Sheriff's Office. The search warrant was issued following a complaint that the homeowner, a convicted felon, was in possession of firearms and ammunition, which he would federally prohibited from possessing, the report states.
Peter Lewis, Jr., 44, was not immediately charged, but is facing possible charges from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, according to an incident report.
Deputies say they seized eight firearms, two gun silencers, a large amount of ammunition, firearm parts and chemical powders that can be used to make bombs.
The Charleston County Bomb Squad and the ATF also responded to the scene, according to Colleton Sheriff's Lt. Amye Stivender.
The incident is still under investigation, Stivender said.
