COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Colleton County emergency officials say Cottageville Highway has been re-opened after a partially-overturned tractor trailer blocked the roadway in both directions.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation was on the scene on Highway 17A west of Cottageville near Burr Hill Road, making repairs to the highway, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy.

That location was between Cottageville and Round O Crossroads, McRoy said.

Motorists traveling in the area were advised to take an alternate route around lunchtime because it was believed clearing the roadway for motorists would take between three to five hours.

According to Colleton County Fire and Rescue officials, the tractor trailer swerved to avoid another vehicle and jack knifed. Authorities say the vehicle then went off the road into the ditch.

A trooper with the South Carolina Highway Patrol says no one was injured.
