NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - North Charleston Police say a suspect has been arrested following an early morning shooting near Spruill Avenue that left one person injured.
Officers were called out to the 1900 block of Joppa Avenue shortly before 5 a.m. in reference to a shooting victim. Police arrived to find the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his calf.
The victim was transported to MUSC for treatment.
North Charleston police say an investigation revealed the victim missed his ride home from an adult entertainment club on Pittsburgh Avenue, so he walked to Joppa Avenue and began knocking on doors to use a phone.
According to the victim, the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Ryan Gadsden, came out of a residence at 1988 Joppa Street, showed the victim a weapon, and told him to leave the area. The suspect then grabbed a club and started to swing it at the victim.
The victim told police Gadsden shot him in the calf as he attempted to run away.
Gadsden has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
