GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Georgetown Sheriff's Office is the latest law enforcement agency issuing a warning about scammers pretending to work for them.
Someone is calling residents of the county in an attempt to solicit fines and fees from would-be victims, according to Sheriff A. Lane Cribb.
The sheriff's office never uses telemarketing to levy fines or allow those with warrants against them to make immediate restitution over the phone, Cribb says.
Anyone who receives a call from someone claiming to work for the Georgetown Sheriff's Office who attempts to solicit fines or fees should report the call to local law enforcement or report the call to the Georgetown Sheriff's Office at (843) 546-5102.
