Report: Ex-Colleton County sheriff stabbed in neck during fight

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Walterboro Police Department is investigating after an altercation involving a former Colleton County sheriff ended with him getting stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver Monday evening.

Police say the incident occurred Monday around 5:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Thompson Street. Officers arrived to learn the incident began as an argument between the daughter of former Colleton County Sheriff Alan Beach, and her boyfriend, identified as Bryan Hickman.

According to a release, Beach appeared on the scene after the argument and got into a physical altercation with Hickman.

During the fight, police say Beach allegedly struck Hickman in the head with a flashlight. Hickman later allegedly stabbed Beach in the neck with a screwdriver.

Both men were transported to Colleton Medical Center for treatment.

Beach served as Colleton County Sheriff from 2002 through 2005, according to the sheriff's office.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.
