Crews extinguish overnight blaze in West Ashley

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Multiple fire crews responded to a blaze Thursday night at an abandoned trailer in West Ashley.

Dispatchers confirm a call was received around 11:30 p.m. for a structure fire on West Avalon Circle. Traffic was blocked off at Ashley Hall Road so firefighters could battle the flames.

Charleston and St. Andrews Fire Departments, among others, were on the scene.

Neighbors at the scene Thursday night say they were nervous about the surrounding buildings catching fire due to strong winds in the area. Ashley Grove Apartments are on the other side of Ashley Hall Road.

The American Red Cross provided assistance to two families whose apartments received minor damage.

Officials have not yet released the cause of the blaze.
