The Citadel Accepting Donations for Daniels

CHARLESTON, SC - In response to inquiries from members of the public wanting to aid Citadel football player DaSean Daniels, The Citadel has set up a fund to accept donations. Donations to the fund will be used to offset any medical expenses not covered by insurance and to help pay for expenses incurred by his family while they were by his side during his hospital stay in Charleston.

On March 10, the fullback from Lawrenceville, Georgia, collapsed during a spring practice session and had to be rushed to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) where he underwent emergency surgery for a subdural hematoma that occurred when a blood vessel burst in his brain.

Doctors say that Daniels, who entered the MUSC in critical condition, is making good progress.

"Our family's prayers have been answered-DaSean doing remarkably well," said Daniels' father, David Daniels. "And we are eternally grateful for the outpouring of concern and support that we've received."

Last Thursday, doctors reattached the portion of the skull that was removed during the first surgery. Daniels was released on Saturday and returned home to Georgia and says that he wants to return to The Citadel on March 29 when the Corps of Cadets returns from spring break.

"Everyone here at The Citadel and especially the members of the football family are thankful that DaSean is making a remarkable recovery from a very serious and scary ordeal," said Head Football Coach Mike Houston. "I am also thankful for everyone involved in helping DaSean with this recovery from the doctors and staff at MUSC to the sports medicine staff here at The Citadel. It is the goal of everyone in The Citadel family and the surrounding area of Charleston to do what is needed to assist the Daniels family in their time of need. We look forward to having DaSean back at The Citadel in the near future."

All gifts should be made payable to The Citadel Foundation, designated for The Citadel Cadet Medical Relief fund and should reference DaSean Daniels. You may mail your gift to The Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie St., Charleston, SC, 29409, or donate online at

This donation is tax-deductible. To comply with NCAA rules for raising money on behalf of student athletes and to comply with federal tax regulations, any funds raised in excess of what is needed will be donated to a not-for-profit organization not related to The Citadel.
