NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified a 36-year-old man who died after an 18-wheeler he was driving overturned on I-526 early Wednesday morning.

Authorities say Mardy Densmore of Georgia died at the scene from his injuries.

North Charleston police said the accident happened just before 2 a.m. on I-526 westbound at the Rivers Avenue eastbound exit ramp.

Police say North Charleston Fire Department and Charleston County Rescue arrived on the scene and extracted the driver, who was pronounced dead.

A Live 5 News photographer on the scene says the 18-wheeler was towed away just after 6:30 a.m.

The Rivers Avenue eastbound exit ramp, Exit 18A, was shut down for several hours while crews cleared the scene. The exit was reopened Wednesday afternoon.
