NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a 47-year-old bicyclist died after his bicycle was struck by an SUV in North Charleston.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office says Virgil Smalls of Goose Creek died at 12:28 a.m. on Tuesday from blunt force trauma.

Shortly before midnight, NCPD officers responded to the US 52 Connector and Rivers Avenue for an accident.

An investigation revealed the bicycle rider, Smalls, was in lane 1 when a Jeep Grand Cherokee struck the cyclist from the rear.
