ST. STEPHEN, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Coroner identified the man whose body was found in the Rediversion Canal in St. Stephen Monday morning.

The body of 74-year-old John Green was found near the St. Stephen Power House and was recovered at 9:30 a.m. by the Berkeley County Rescue Squad and Coroner Bill Salisbury.

Salisbury said they responded to a report of a body in the water at approximately 8:45 a.m.

Salisbury said Green's car had been located on the Highway 52 bridge crossing the canal north of St. Stephen on March 30, when crews responded to a report of a possible jumper. At the time, crews found no sign of a potential jumper.

"I would like to thank everyone that participated in the search for 36 days," Salisbury said, adding they had been searching for Green every day.

The cause of death was drowning, Salisbury said.
