Emergency crews contain fire near Kapstone plant in N. Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Emergency crews have contained a fire in the area of the Kapstone plant in North Charleston.

According to North Charleston Fire Department officials, the fire involved wooden pallets and did not threaten any nearby structures.

Emergency crews responded to the plant on Virginia Avenue for a reported fire located outside the plant.

According to one viewer, he heard a large explosion around 5 p.m. then saw a cloud of smoke. He believes a vehicle hit something next to the train tracks by the Virginia Avenue and Remount Road intersection.

Witnesses reported fire and EMS units responding to the scene.
