CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Sunday, a cornhole tournament raised more than $1,000 for local veterans.
Desano Pizza hosted the tournament for the Palmetto Warrior Connection.
The program helps local veterans find work and a place to live along with providing help to their families. Leaders with the group say 22 veterans commit suicide every day and they aim to prevent that through community support.
"We want to ensure that we provide our warriors who served our great country, provide them with hope, healing, and health and we believe that our motto helps to do that; helping with housing, employment, education, mental health, as well as to make sure they have a holistic approach to our mission," Jermaine Husser, the executive director for PWC said.
The first place team in the cornhole tournament took home $200.
