HANAHAN, SC (WCSC) - Hanahan police officers successfully wrangled an alligator spotted under a car at a grocery store parking lot.

The photos, posted on Police Chief Mike Cochran's Facebook page, show officers holding the nearly six-foot-long gator.

A man spotted the alligator under his car in the parking lot of BI-LO on Tanner Ford Boulevard, according to Hanahan Police Lt. Michael Fowler.

Police say it was reported to them as only about three feet long, but when they arrived, they realized it was nearly double that size.

"Something they don't teach at the police academy," Cochran wrote on the Facebook post.

The alligator was released into Goose Creek reservoir, Fowler said.
