DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Dorchester County Coroner's Office has identified two people who were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 61 at Middleton Place Wednesday afternoon.

Kenneth Stanley, 57, of Hanahan, and 21-year-old Ronald Nicolas Salas Rodriguez of Johns Island died in the crash, according to Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet.

State Highway Patrol troopers say Stanley's car crossed over the center line and collided head-on with another vehicle which Rodriguez was driving.

The crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday and closed the roadway for nearly three hours as troopers cleared the scene and investigated the incident.

Pictures from the scene showed three helicopters responded to the area to transport victims.

Witnesses said the vehicles involved were heavily damaged and were located near the woods following the collision.
