Berkeley County School District had a mixed turnout for its first meet and greet with superintendent finalists.
Tuesday’s event was for Dr. Samuel DePaul and while the private meeting with school district employees was well attended, no members of the public attended the public portion of the meet and greet.
"We had a good amount of school employees here,” Jim Hayes, the BCSD board chairman said. “We haven't had very many people from the community. A lot of that has to do with the time of the day of course as well as it's summertime."
Dr. DePaul started his career as a science teacher in Pennsylvania and is now a superintendent in southern Georgia.
Wednesday and Thursday the district will have the same events for the Brenda Blackburn and Dr. Jerome Stewart.
Dr. DePaul was willing to speak with Live 5 News, but the school district did not allow him to. It did not provide a reason why.
Berkeley County had three finalists in April for the job but restarted the search after one of them dropped out.
