CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The thousands of travelers who fly through Charleston International Airport every day may soon see a permanent memorial dedicated to the Emanuel Nine.

The Charleston County Aviation Authority created a new committee to create a "meaningful and lasting memorial" to honor the nine people killed inside of Mother Emanuel AME Church on June 17th.

The committee met for the first time on Friday morning. According to committee paperwork, the group seeks to create an interactive memorial based on the theme of "Amazing Grace." The chosen design will honor the victims, and also celebrate the support shown to the church following the massacre.

Myrtle Beach engineering and architecture firm Mead & Hunt will provide project management services on a pro bono basis,
