MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - The Mount Pleasant Police Department is hosting a BBQ cookout Friday to raise money to help children who may never experience the joy of Christmas.

Through sales of BBQ chicken and pulled pork baskets, police hope to raise enough money to send 10 children on a Christmas shopping spree.

"After the success of our first two fundraisers, Team 2 will again be selling lunch out of our Emergency Operations Center at police headquarters," Inspector Chip Googe said. "The more money we raise, the more children we can take shopping as we are trying to fund 10 but would love to take as many as 15."

These children have been identified through each of the elementary schools located around Mount Pleasant.

Police will deliver lunches for those with 10 or more orders who are located in Mount Pleasant.

Googe said Linen's BBQ is donating their time and equipment to help.

The menu includes two main options: a BBQ chicken dinner with two sides and a drink for $10, or a pulled pork basket with one side and a drink for $8.

The sides will be cole slaw, string beans and baked beans.

To place an order, email crosier@tompsc.com. The vendor will be accepting cash only, Googe said.
