Coroner identifies victim in fatal moped accident in Goose Creek

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - One woman is dead after a fatal collision involving a moped and a pickup truck at the intersection of Howe Hall Road and Red Bank Road in Goose Creek, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

Lisa J. Rast, 44, of Goose Creek was confirmed dead on the scene.

She was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, the Coroner stated.

According to Goose Creek Police Captain John Grainger, officers were dispatched around 10:20 p.m in reference to the collision.

This is the fourth moped death this year in Berkeley County.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, Grainger said.

Witnesses told WCSC Howe Hall Road near Red Bank Road in Berkeley County was shut down for an accident on Wednesday night involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck.

Two lanes on Red Bank were also blocked.

Grainger said witnesses suggested at the time of the collision, the driver of the truck was turning left onto Howe Hall Road from Redbank Road as the moped was emerging from Howe Hall Road.

No determination has been made as to any contributing parties or factors at this time, officials say.

The accident is still under investigation by the Berkeley County Coroner and the Goose Creek Police Department.
