NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police are investigating a shooting that injured one person in North Charleston Wednesday afternoon.

North Charleston police officers responded to the area of Dorchester Road and West Surrey Drive to meet with the victim of a shooting incident.

According to the victim, he was driving a Ford Taurus in the area of Dorchester Road and Stark Lane when a grey Chevrolet vehicle pulled up alongside him.

The victim said someone from inside that vehicle fired shots at him.

Investigators say the driver was struck in the hip and treated by medical officials.

The driver was unable to provide police with a description of the shooter, authorities say. Police are continuing the investigation.

A number of schools were placed on code yellow administrative lockdown as authorities investigated the shooting.

CCSD officials say the lockdown has since been lifted at Burns Elementary, Garrett, Daniel Jenkins, Mary Ford, Meeting Street Academy and Summit.

All schools other than Burns will be releasing students normally. Walkers at Burns Elementary are being held at school, as officials call parents to have them picked up.

Parents should expect some delays with bussing due to the controlled dismissal.
