CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A South Carolina lawmaker says he will pre-file a bill requiring movie theaters, sporting areas and concert venues to install and operate metal detectors.

State Rep. Wendell Gilliard's bill would require walk-through metal detectors in movie theaters, and walk-through or wand metal detectors at collegiate and non-collegiate sporting arenas and concert venues.

Gilliard plans to meet with members of the National Association of Theater Owners as well as local theater personnel to discuss the issue.

Legislators return to the State House in January.
