Sketch released of suspect wanted for assault, robbery in downtown Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston investigators have released a sketch of a man wanted for an armed robbery and assault in downtown.

The Charleston Police Department says the incident happened on Sunday at 12:45 a.m. when a female victim was approached in front of 35 Bogard Street.

Police say the victim was assaulted and robbed of her cell phone.

Authorities describe the suspect as a black male, medium complexion, 19 to 25 years of age, approximately 5'10" height, slender build, short afro hair style, wearing a dark sweatshirt and jeans.

According to police, the suspect was armed with a handgun during the robbery.

The College of Charleston's department of public safety is increasing patrols in the area due to this incident and another on St. Phillip Street.
