Bond denied for man charged in fatal stabbing of pregnant girlfriend
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - A judge denied bond Monday for a 26-year-old man charged in the fatal stabbing of his pregnant girlfriend.
Ricky Short, 26, is charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder of their unborn child and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to North Charleston Police Lt. Angela Johnson.
The judge set his bond at $200,000 for the weapon charge, but denied bond on the murder and attempted murder charge.
Officers responded to the scene near Railroad Avenue and Graham Street at approximately 11:25 p.m. Saturday and found the victim, Malakia Frazier, with multiple stab wounds to her upper body, Johnson said. Court documents say Short stabbed Frazier after a fight.
EMS transported her to MUSC where she died from her injuries. The baby was emergency-delivered and is in intensive care, Johnson said. Frazier's family says the baby remains in intensive care and has been named Miracle.
Frazier's family said they never thought domestic violence would hit so close to home.
"We want the world to know that domestic violence is cruel and that it has found it's way out our door," family member Doris Bonneau said. "So we have to deal with it, and we are. We are picking up the pieces, so we have decided to move on and help raise her baby."
Short was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
