RIDGE SPRING, S.C. (AP) - Saluda County deputies say a man stole an ambulance while the paramedics searched for their patient after being called to the home.

The sheriff's office said in a news release that someone called the ambulance after it appeared 26-year-old Richard Gentry Jr. had suffered a seizure around 12:45 a.m. Thursday.

Paramedics told deputies they could not find Gentry when they arrived and were going to the back door when they heard the ambulance driving away.

Authorities say Gentry drove the ambulance 2 miles to a relative's home and crashed it into a carport.

Gentry was treated and released from the hospital, then was charged with grand larceny. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
