SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A Belton man has been killed after his dump truck was hit by a train.

The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office tells local media that 65-year-old Andrew Burgess was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday.

The state highway patrol says that the crash occurred in the afternoon along a railroad near Mt. Cavalry Church Road and Highway 295 in Spartanburg County. Burgess attempted to back up on a side street near Mt. Cavalry Road when he drove onto the railroad tracks.

Croft Fire Chief Lewis Hayes says a Norfolk Southern train hit Burgess' truck and he became trapped inside.
