Midland Park Community Ministries hosts annual free food giveaway

Midland Park Community Ministries in North Charleston is hosting its annual free food distribution at 3 p.m. this afternoon.

Organizers expect to serve free, healthy food to more than 1,000 people who need a little help putting food on the table.

The time between Christmas and the New Year can be tough for a lot of people, but especially children who are on break from school and might not have access to a nutritious meal everyday.

Organizers say they have well over 7,000 pounds of food to give away for free, no questions asked.

Midland Park Community Ministries has hosted the giveaway for more than 10 years. Much of the food comes from the Lowcountry food bank, local grocery stores and other donators.

Organizers say that all are welcome and no one will be turned away.

The event will be at Midland Park Community Ministries on Midland Park Road in North Charleston.

If you're going, please bring your own bags to carry the food.
