Police investigating fire at Michael Slager's former home in Hanahan
BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Police are investigating after someone started a fire at Michael Slager's former home in Hanahan Friday night.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m., officers with the Hanahan Police Department received a 911 call about a house fire on Yeamans Hall Road.
According to police, the fire department was immediately notified, responded to the home and discovered that a neighbor saw the fire and put it out.
Witnesses said the fire appeared to be small.
Investigators describe the damage as being "very minor."
Police say prior to the discovery of the fire, it was reported to authorities that a suspicious person was seen leaving the area.
Authorities describe the person as 5'10" with a skinny build, and was wearing dark clothing.
"This active investigation is in its early stages and there is no other information to release at this time," HPD officials said.
Authorities said an incident report will be released on Monday.
No injuries were reported.
Motorists reported seeing fire and police units on scene.
Authorities had an active scene at the residence until around midnight.
Police say Slager nor any of his family members no longer reside in the home.
Slager, a former North Charleston police officer, has been charged with the shooting death of Walter Scott.
