Several Lowcountry churches open warming shelters

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - People needing to get out of the cold this week can take shelter at churches in North Charleston, Goose Creek and Mount Pleasant.

Aldersgate United Methodist in North Charleston will open its warming shelter tonight. The church will provide a bed, hot shower and a warm meal for those who take advantage of the temporary shelter.

People can also get a free ride to Aldersgate through CARTA. Riders who take bus route 13 and tell the driver they are going to the warming shelter will not be charged, according to a statement. The church is located at the following address:

In Mount Pleasant, the Hibben UMC Emergency Cold Shelter will be open Tuesday and Wednesday.

The warming shelter can be found at the following address:

In Berkeley County, Goose Creek United Methodist Church is also opening Monday night through Wednesday night to provide shelter.

Those needing shelter may come into the church beginning at 9 p.m. but must leave by 9 a.m. Tuesday.Goose Creek UMC is located at the following address:
