BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office teamed up with members of the DEA to take down a local man accused of dealing meth.

Sheriff Duane Lewis announced today that on January 14, 2016, members of the DEA and Berkeley County Sheriff's Office arrested Daniel Cowart at his home on Haney Lane off of Southside Street in the Sangaree area of Berkeley County.

Investigators executed a search warrant at his residence and at a nearby Public Storage Unit.

Investigators found a Russian made Mosin Nagant rifle at the storage garage.

At the residence investigators discovered approximately one ounce of crystal meth along with an SKS rifle, a 12 gauge shotgun, a Glock 9mm pistol, a Beretta 9mm pistol, a ballistic vest, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a flashlight stun gun and brass knuckles.

Cowart was charged federally with Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamines and Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamines.

Sheriff Duane Lewis stated, "I am very pleased to be working closely with our federal partners on this serious issue. Gun and drug violence is at the root of much of the evil in the county and removing Daniel Cowart from the Sangaree area will have an impact on the community and county. We are grateful for the assistance from the DEA on this case and look forward to continuing to work with them throughout the county."
