Website lists Lowcountry town as 'most boring' in South Carolina
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston County community has been named the state's biggest "snoozefest" by a North Carolina-based website.
The website RoadSnacks.net, which publishes lists of cities categorized by the most dangerous, "worst," and "snobbiest" released a tongue-in-cheek article listing the cities it considers the "most boring" in the Palmetto State.
Hollywood came out at the top of the list. Hilton Head Island and the Isle of Palms also made the top 10, according to the site.
The site claims its ranking is based on "data and science," basing the ranking on six factors that range from percentage of population older than 35 years old, average age and percentage of households with children. In all categories except population density, the site states, the higher the number, the more "boring" the community will be according to their algorithm.
The list was also restricted to cities or towns with populations of at least 2,000 people.
In its listing for Hollywood, its residents' average age of 47.7 years and an average of 51.9 percent of married households help earn the town the top spot -- or perhaps, the bottom spot, depending on how you look at it.
Hollywood Mayor Jacquelyn Heyward took news of the ranking in stride, saying there is a growing older population in her community, but adding that there are beautiful of amenities there that people of all ages enjoy...if they're lucky enough to have discovered Hollywood.
"Maybe we're just a gem that's waiting to be captured," Heyward said.
A self-identified lifelong resident of Honea Path, which came in second on the list, left a comment on the site defending her community.
"I will take 'boring' over the 'hustle and bustle' of a city any day of the week," site user Shelley Robinson wrote.
