Charleston man frees giant manta ray from netting
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston man vacationing in Mexico helped to free a giant manta ray from a net that had surrounded its mouth.
This past weekend Craig Comer was in the Gulf Coast when he, some friends and the boat's captain saw the large animal swimming along beside their boat.
"It has a net on it!" says the captain who can be heard on the video.
According to the witnesses, the ray appeared to be 10-feet wide.
Both Comer and the captain can be seen on the video attempting to cut a net off of the animal's mouth.
The rescuers say the attempt to free the animal was successful.
The ray then swam away unencumbered after the rescue.
