DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A motorist and a Dorchester County Sheriff's Office deputy were injured following an accident in Summerville.

The accident happened on North Main Street and Highway 78 in Summerville Monday afternoon.

Highway Patrol says the officer only received minor injuries to his hand.

The driver of the other vehicle has been taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

The accident happened just before 3:30 p.m.

The Highway Patrol says the deputy wasn't responding to a call or making traffic stop,  it was just a traffic accident and they are investigating who is at fault.

Some roads were closed in the area during that cleanup.

Motorists reported the accident tied up traffic on North Main Street as crews responded to the scene.

EMS, fire and police also responded to the incident.
