3-year-old found dead at County Park

(WCSC) - At a press conference at the James Island County Park on Saturday, Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen announced that the 3-year-old that went missing from the park was found dead.

Mullen says the body of the child was found around 10:03 p.m.

The body of the child was discovered in a small pond.

Mayor John Tecklenburg was at the press conference where he spoke about the incident saying "accidental loss is tragedy for the family, and for this community."

The coroner says it appears to have been an accidental drowning.  The investigation is ongoing.

McLemore went missing around 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Charleston Fire Department the effort was a joint rescue operation that involves the Charleston Fire Department, the James Island Fire Department, the Charleston Police Department, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, Charleston County Rescue, Charleston County EMS, and the the U.S. Coast Guard.
