Report names Charleston among top places to retire

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston ranks among the top 20 cities for retirees according to a new report.

Arlington, VA is the best place to retire according to the report. Almost 200 cities were included in the list of the best and worst cities for people live out their golden years. Charleston ranked number 20 and is the highest city in South Carolina.

Cities are evaluated based on cost of living, crime rates, personal well-being, walkability, state and local taxes, quality and cost of healthcare, weather and the cultural scene. Ratings in each category range from "great" or "very high" down to "poor" or "very low."

Five other South Carolina cities made the list in addition to Charleston. Mauldin (29), Greenville (38), Columbia (72), Anderson (104) and North Charleston (111) were all ranked by the report.
